Chapter One

As David Monagan had already been to Ireland when he was a student, he was absolutely thrilled by the the place.

In chapter one he describes why he and his family moved to Ireland and how they felt about it, especially his youngest son Owen. On their first day in Ireland, they wandered the streets of their new home and enjoyed the hectic atomsphere. However, he also sensed that Ireland has changed over the years and is now different to what he had expected. He started to have doubts about the big step moving to Ireland and realized that he and his family will have to learn quite a few things about how things work in this country.

David Monagan, an American in his forties with Irish roots moved with his wife and his three children from Cornwall, a small town in Western Conneticut to Cork, Ireland's second largest city.

In his book "Jaywlking with the Irish" he describes the family's pleasures, challenges ,frustrations and struggles when it comes to terms with their new life to fit in.

Dr. Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr. is the Chief of Surgery at the Seattle Grace Hospital. He was once more than close friends with Meredith's mother, Ellis Grey, although both were married. She left her husband, but Richard couldn't leave his wife Adele. Later he confessed that he believed that Ellis had deserved a better guy than him. Also his wife admitted that she had known about the affair, but stayed with him anyway.

Since he knows about the illness of Ellis Grey- she has got Alzheimer's disease, he visits her regularly.

Dr. Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, is nicknamed "The Nazi", because of her tough personality and her forthright attitude. She is a senior surgical resident and in charge of the five interns Meredith, Izzie, Christina, George and Alex. Although she is very gruffy, she cares a lot about her interns and her patients. She is married with Tucker Jones and they have a son called William George Bailey Jones.

Dr. Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers, is a former wrestler and studied medicine on a wrestling scholarship. Alex became a wrestler because his father, a musician,and drug addict used to beat his mother. After Alex beat his father, ending up in hospital, he left Alex and his wife behind.

Alex is a very eager intern, but he can be very overconfident and selfish. Not only that he wants to work on cases that he feels are truly interesting, but also his offensive behaviour cause him to be an outcast and extremely disliked by doctors and patients. However, Alex does also have a moral side and is the only doctor who tells the truth to patients at the risk of getting kicked out and offending patients.

Dr. George O'Malley, played by T.R. Knight also called "Puppy", "007" (liscensed to kill), "Bambi"and "Curious George" by the other the other interns, is one of Meredith's roommates. He sometimes gets into arguments with others despite his positive and much more female personality.

Since he first met Meredith he had an infatuation with her. One day, when Meredith was totally depressed and sad, George tried to console her, ending up with a one- night stand. As Meredith started to cry during their encounter, George was very disgruntled and hurt in his feelings. This was the breaking-point of their friendship.

Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, played by Katherine Heigl, Izzie is the blonde roommate of Meredith and George. She grew up in a trailer park with her mother, who called her "Cricket". Izzie worked as a waitress as a teenager, but all her savings for college were spent on visits to pysics by her mom. As the relationship with her mom was estranged, she left home at the age of 16. So Izzie was forced to job as an underwear model for fictional designer Bethany Whisper to pay her way through medical school.Izzie is a very compassionate person, who sometimes gets too emotionally involved in helping her patients.

Dr. Preston Burke, played by Isaiah Washington, the chief of cardiothoracic surgeon at the Seattle Grace. After completing pre-medical studies at Tulane University, Burke graduated first in his class, not because he was the most talented nor the smartest, but because he worked the hardest. He starts a relationship with the selfish intern Christina Yang. He plays the trumpet and enjoys jazz music.

Dr. Christina Yang, Sandra Oh, is also an intern at the Seattle Grace. As she is a very fast learner and very ambitious, she is considered to be agressive and "cold". Christina has serious problems in relating to people, especially to patients. Right now she is in a relationship with Dr. Preston Burke,the chief cardiothoracic surgeon at Seattle Grace.

Grey's Anatomy Characters

Dr. Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, is the head of the neuro-surgery at the Seattle Grace. After he found out about the affair between his wife Addison and his bestfriend Marc Sloan, he left her and started working at the Seattle Grace Hospital. At a bar he gets to know Meredith Grey, not knowing that she is his intern and vice verse.

Grey's Anatomy Characters

Not only is Dr. Meredith Grey played by Ellen Pompeo the narrator of the serie, but also the central character. She becomes an intern at the Seattle Grace Hospital, Washington, where she meets the other interns Christina, Izzie, George who will be her closest friends during the programme.Although Meredith seems to be desorientated most of the time, when it comes to dealing with patients, she has a very good medical instinct.

Concerning men, she is not a lucky one: she falls in love with her boss Dr. Shepherd, who is one of the renowned surgeons at Grace'. To make matters even worse he is married with Dr. Addison Montgomery- Shepherd.

Grey's Anatomy is an Emmy, SAG (Scrren Actors Guild) and Golden Globe award-winning American primetime television medical drama.

It tells the story of the surgical intern called Meredith Grey, whose mother is the renowned surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith began her career with her other surgical companions Isobel ("Izzie"), Christina and George at the Seattle Grace Hospital.
